People who discover Tumblr

It’s funny to read other websites on the topic of the Tumblr acquisition by Yahoo! Many people, who are just discovering Tumblr, seem to believe that it consist only of the following:

• It’s porn. Only porn.
• Funny memes that become stupid 5 minutes in
• Fetishes
• Image stealing

They also seem to believe that the only Tumblr users are:

• Creative teenagers
• 13-year-old girls
• People who spend half their day playing free online games

I do nothing of the above on Tumblr, and I’m definitely not part of any of those groups of people; yet I’m here and quite happy with the use I make of the place. :-)

Mobile games and online activation

Dear mobile game makers,

Please stop assuming that I have a data plan with my mobile phone. I don’t. I have little use for it, and it’s too expensive for what little it’s worth to me.

It’s highly irritating to be unable to start a game as it suddendly decided that it needs an online check to verify that my copy is legit. I only play mobile games on the go, such as on a bus or in the subway, and I have no hope of getting an Internet connection in those locations. If I find myself unable to play your game due to a single check, odds are that I won’t purchase your future titles. It’s as simple as that.

On new releases

No, I don’t feel the urge to go see a movie the day it’s out. No, I don’t feel the urge to play a game the day it’s in my hands.

Allow me to enjoy what I want, when I want.I prefer movie theatres when they’re not full; going to see a movie a week or two after it’s release allows me to enjoy it quietly. Likewise, what’s the rush to play and beat a newly acquired game within a few days?

Just keep me free of any spoilers.

Free-to-play games

I’m starting to reach a point where, whenever a new game is announced then proclaimed to be free-to-play, I lose interest fast. Is the constant barrage of ads annoying me? Is it the expectation of microtransactions? Am I afraid to play a silly game with no depth? I’m not sure, but that bugs me.
